The water authority managed dozens of wastewater lift stations distributed across a large metropolitan area. The failure of a single pump could lead to catastrophic sewage overflows, resulting in severe environmental damage and massive regulatory fines. The primary obstacle to remote monitoring was the physical environment: lift stations are highly corrosive, damp, and exposed to extreme humidity and hydrogen sulfide gases. Operating perfectly up to 95% Relative Humidity (Non-condensing), the gateway's fanless design ensured flawless operation without drawing in corrosive ambient gases.

  • Dependable Telemetry and Digital Alarming: The SG100 continuously transmits PLC data—including pump amperage and flow rates—to the city's central SCADA system over the 4G LTE network. Additionally, the authority utilized the gateway's built-in Digital Output (1*DO - Dry Contact) wired directly to a local high-decibel alarm siren and strobe light, providing an immediate on-site physical alert if water levels reached critical thresholds, independent of the cloud connection.

  • Seamless Panel Integration: Designed specifically for industrial automation panels, the SG100 utilized its standard DIN Rail Mount kit (DRK-SG-STD) to snap directly into the existing control cabinets. It drew power flawlessly from the cabinet's existing 24V DC control loops via its secure screw terminal block.


The Benefits: Prevention of Environmental Hazards

The resilient connectivity provided by the SG100 allowed the water authority to transition to a proactive monitoring stance. By analyzing the continuous 4G LTE data stream over secure IPsec tunnels, engineers could detect abnormal pump amperage draws indicating blockages, dispatching maintenance crews to clear debris long before a costly and environmentally damaging overflow event occurred.
